Now, I like Brett, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I was a big Poison fan back in the day, but I'm not sure this is a good idea. In the past few months, Michaels has suffered from appendicitis, a brain hemorrhage, and a stroke. I think some higher power might be trying to tell him something. I don't doubt he has plenty of advice to offer. He's been a performer for nearly two decades, and can offer words on music and performance. But he does have children to think about, and I think they need him more than Idol does. However, I do shudder to think of the alternatives.
The Vampire Diaries has finally reached the end of it's first season. Many characters have come and gone (Pearl, Vicky), and tonight was no exception. Was it worth the wait? Well, read on to find out.

It's Founder's Day in Mystic Falls, and after a misleading intro, we see Elena and Stefan in old fashioned clothing (and pulling it off by the way) on their way to the parade. Jeremy is too, but not after a visit from Ana. She is feeling alone (who can blame her after her mother has just been killed) and asks Jeremy to leave town with her. She gives him a vial of her blood and asks him to drink it so she can turn him. He refuses, and she leaves just as quickly as she came in.

Jeremy is still pissed with Elena, and refuses to let her make things right. Stefan and Damon are having their own little squabble as well, with Damon's feelings for Elena coming into question. Add Elena finding out the uncle she's hated for so long is really her father, and you've got one really tense situation.

Pappa John (formaly Uncle John) is still moving foward with his plan to kill all the Vampires, and we finally find out what that device does: it lets out a high frequency pitch that only Vampires can hear (among other things, more on that later) which will leave vulnerable, allowing the police to round them up and finish them off. What John doesn't know is that Ana has informed Damon of the tomb vampires plan to kill the townspeople. Damon and Stefan are still under the impression that Bonnie deacitivated the device, and try to round up their loved ones before it is too late.

Once the fireworks begin, Uncle John is given the signal, and the device goes off. All the vampires fall, including Damon, Stefan, and Ana. In fact, Tyler and his father the mayor also seem to be affected, causing Tyler to crash his car. Unfortunately, only Stefan was able to get away, thanks to quick thinking from Alaric.

All the vamps (and the mayor) are taken into the basement, where John spreads gasoline across the room. He sees Ana and in a tragic scene, stakes her with a helpless Damon looking on. Stefan is able to get Damon out, with a little help from Bonnie, leaving the others to burn. On a side note, the mayor was not affected by the vervaine, which was questioned by Damon. Before he can answer, one of the vamps snaps his neck, leaving us to wonder if they will show what Tyler really is.

Back at the Gilbert house, Damon decides to tell Jeremy about Ana, letting him decide how he wants to handle it. It does not go well, and after Damon leaves, Jeremy decides to take up Ana's offer, even if she is not there anymore.

Damon runs into Elena on the porch, and after a some sweet words, they share a brief kiss. Brief because Jenna catches them and brings her inside.

Pappa John sees her and tries to explain. He offer to help her put away knives, when suddenly she takes on, chops off his ring, and reveals herself to be none other than Katherine. The real Elena shows up looking for Jeremy, who has just swallowed a bunch of pills, and hears a noise in the kitchen. Naturally, she investigates.

Some thoughts:
I've been waiting for Katherine to come all season, and now I'll have to wait until next season to find out what happens.

The kiss really took me for a loop, and even more so when it was revealed to be Katherine.

Best Moment: Damon telling Stefan that Elena is not Katherine, only to have her show up in her old time dress.

This was a great episode, and a perfect end to a wonderful season. They really have come a long way since the pilot, which left me wondering if I would actually be into this one. I'm glad I stuck with it. But now I have to wait till next season. Damn.Michael W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16784200947393387409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2682414760339943725.post-62563820439657621082010-05-13T18:29:00.001-05:002010-05-13T18:29:22.081-05:00True Blood Bewere Poster

Well folks, here it is, the eighth poster in the True Blood series. After a wildly popular Facebook campaign, Betty White's episode finally aired. White was joined by former SNL cast members for a special Mother's Day event. Was it worth the wait? Read on.(I'll only touch on the things I found the best of the episode).

Monologue: Future hosts take note: This is how it's done. No awkward moments, no silly musical numbers. Simply one nicely timed one liner after another. The highlight: Betty's take on Facebook, which she thanked in her own special way, jokingly referring to the social networking site as a complete waste of time.

Delicious Dish: Ana Gasteyer and Molly Shannon reprised their NPR cooking show sketch, bringing White as a baker that is famous for her muffin. Great lines, and I nearly died of laughter when Shannon declared "I think your muffin just squirted a bit in my mouth." Naughty, but fun.

The Manuel Ortiz Show: Okay, this wasn't one of the best, but well worth watching to see White shaking it with the other cast members, and uttering the line "That explains why he doesn't like Tacos," when finding out her son is a gay top.

MacGruber: White played the MacGruber's grandmother, who berated him every chance she got, until in what was a sweet, and then suddenly creepy moment, they kissed. It may sound bad, but White managed to make me do something that is rare when I watch a MacGruber sketch: Laugh.

Overall, I can honestly say that I laughed through the entire episode. It's been a while since that happened, which goes to show you that there is a difference between a true comedian, and someone who just thinks they are one. Hopefully SNL remembers this when picking hosts in the future.

Bonus sketch: Debbie Downer returns. I'm a huge fan of Rachel Dratch, and just had to show this one.

But trust, it was worth it. Take a look at this interview I did for TheTwoCents.com with Elaine Stritch, that fabulous Broadway, Television, and Film actress.
I don't want to give too much away, but I must say, she is a laugh riot, as well as very insightful. For me, this one was kind of a nailbiter, especially with Niecy and Louie as the other half of the bottom two. I didn't for once believe Evan and Anna were in any real jeopardy. Even with one bad dance, I think they have built enough of a fan base to pull them through. But I guess it heightens the suspense. I'm just glad Pamela and Damien got an extra week. I'm looking forward to seeing the kind of Samba they come up with though. But this is Jake's moment, and I've decided to pay tribute by showing my favorite dance of his. I'm sure you can guess which one : )

What do you think? Should Jake have gone home? Or was it Niecy's time?
No legal action was taken, however the producers agreed to apply for permits for any future tapings and specials. What do you think? Should the kids be back on T.V.? Or should they try to live a normal life from now on?Michael W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16784200947393387409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2682414760339943725.post-79401080958082395132010-04-26T18:08:00.001-05:002010-04-26T18:11:17.221-05:00True Blood: Bill is Missing VideoFollowing up with the clever Missing Poster, True Blood has now increased the search for Bill with a new video. In fact, one of my fondest memories is performing "Nothing but a Good Time" for one of my talent shows. Because I don't have a copy of that one (nor will I ever), I've decided to post the original, which I'm sure you would enjoy more. Get well soon Brett! My thoughts are with you.

Basically it says the reason why the Prius is so prominently featured on the show, among others, is because producers want them there.Take a look and tell me what you think.Michael W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16784200947393387409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2682414760339943725.post-76782966625537645392010-04-22T12:54:00.001-05:002010-04-22T12:55:18.432-05:00True Blood's Missing Poster

The fifth in the series of collectible posters from True Blood is a clever play on the Missing Persons Milk Carton ads. If you remember, Bill was abducted in the season finale, which will take Sookie on a journey to find him. I guess based on the bottle, she is not taking any chances. This is by far my favorite, and hope the rest are this creative.Michael W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16784200947393387409noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2682414760339943725.post-70957676201170465682010-04-22T00:35:00.001-05:002010-04-22T11:35:14.035-05:00The New Adventures of Old Christine and the PriusWhat do a CBS sitcom that I enjoy and Toyota have in common? They combined their efforts to make the worst product placement this side of Heroes (anyone remember the Nissan Versa and Rogue fitting prominently into the plot?) Okay, I realize it's going to happen, and even my favorite shows, which this one is, won't escape it. But it makes my heart sink to see a big Toyota-thon banner in the background, especially knowing that it is a real event. But you know what, I might have let that slip. However, once the salesman went on about the new features in the Prius, I knew I just couldn't take anymore. Thank goodness for the scenes with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss and Eric McCormack, or else the entire episode would have been lost. If only Wanda Sykes was there. I probably wouldn't have even noticed.

It's not that I am against advertising. I do understand it's purpose, but sometimes it can be overkill. Take going to the movies. Not only do we have to sit through previews (which I actually do enjoy) but for the past few years commercials have taken up valuable time as well.

If you think about it, I guess advertisers feel they no longer have a choice, especially after the invention of the DVR. People can basically skip commercials now, which are a big part of advertising. Although I understand, I don't necessarily agree. People watch T.V. to relax, and that can't happen if the good storytelling takes a back seat to sales. So please, networks and advertisers, listen to your viewers. Cut back on the lame product placements and focus more on putting out a quality product. In these tough times, it's the least you can do.Michael W.http://www.blogger.com/profile/16784200947393387409noreply@blogger.com0
