My DVR Moment of the Week

Well, I never said my top moments were always going to be what was the best on T.V. Case in point: Kate Gosselin's odd (and not in a good way) performance on this weeks Dancing With the Stars. The song choice (Lady Gaga's Paparazzi)  was pure inspiration, since it's a subject Kate faces on a daily basis, however she was just unable to channel that emotion into anything worth watching. She did get another week, so maybe she'll finally get her act together. But I honestly doubt it.




Runner up: Never one to pass up an opportunity, Jimmy Fallon Parodies Kate's dance.



Missed Moment:Tina Fey brings back her Sarah Palin impersonation on SNL. I could kick myself for missing this.

The Sarah Palin Show???

Well, I guess after you criticize a network for one joke on a particular program, the next step is to pitch a show to them. Sarah Palin and Survivor creator Mark Burnett are reportedly shopping around a new reality series that will focus on Palin's home state of Alaska. The show will  reportedly  be a "Planet Earth" style creation, which will feature the Palin family.They have already visited Fox (home of Family Guy), ABC, and CBS, and will later visit NBC.

I know people criticize President Obama for always being on T.V.(he's going to honor America's Most Wanted this Saturday, though honestly, for a show like that to have been on for 1,000 episodes and which brings so many to justice, I think it is fitting for the president to do so)  but I feel we can safely say the same about Palin. In a short amount of time she has become a guest correspondent for Fox News, appeared on The Tonight Show, and now this. Plus, as mentioned above, she was all over the media with the whole Family Guy thing, and also had some beef with David Letterman that was very well publicized. If other politicians are this way, I'm beginning to realize why it is taking forever to get things done. Hopefully they start to remember that they are not rock/movie/T.V. stars and set out to make good on their promises. Well, I think that's enough of my soapbox for now.

Family Guy Actress Responds to Palin

Now here's an interesting turn of events I found off of CNN.com: Andrea Fay Friedman, the actress who voiced the character that sparked an angry response from Palin, has down syndrome, and saw the scene as nothing but satire.Friedman states that she was simply playing a role, and the line was part of that role, which she had fun doing. She also goes on to say that her parents raised her to laugh and have a sense of humor, which is part of having a normal life.

I would have to agree, especially since I do not feel that the episode showed her character in a negative way (except for being a bit high maintenance.) I'm beginning to wonder if Palin saw the episode at all, or just merely heard about it. What do you all think?

Question of the Day 2/19/2010

Taking a cue from Sarah Palin (and this will probably be the only, ONLY time I do that) and the whole Family Guy situation, how far is too far for a comedy to go? Is there a line that should be drawn? Comment away!

Fey May Return as Palin on SNL?

Here's a bit of interesting news from the Associated Press: You betcha: Fey's SNL return as Palin is likely.

Although SNL has not made an official comment, since things could change at the last minute, this is definitely something to look forward to. Fey's impersonation of Palin was a highlight of that season, and became an icon of the election. Besides, there is so much material now, with the book, her statement about Family Guy, and the incident with the notes on her hand, there is just no way that SNL could pass this up this opportunity. But then again, they have passed up a few before. Hopefully the McGruber movie isn't taking up too much of their energy.

Palin angry over Family Guy reference

Former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has a beef with Family Guy. According to the Associated Press article I read, this past weeks episode featured a character with Down Syndrome, who while on a date with Chris makes a statement that her Dad is an accountant and her mom is the former Governor of Alaska. Palin refers to the reference as "another kick in the gut" and later asks "when is enough enough?"

To get this out of the way, I do understand Palin's position. As someone who worked with children with disabilities, it is very hard for me to see jokes at their expense, especially on T.V. However, after watching the episode, it really didn't seem like an attack on her son Trig, and wasn't necessarily a negative portrayal of people with Down Syndrome. The character seemed high functioning, and wasn't all that different from any high-maintenance, high school age girl. In fact, they've done a lot worse with other groups before. Does that make it right? Maybe not, but if they were to apologize for this, then they need to apologize to the following groups that were also made fun of in the episode:

The British
American Public(for thinking Thornton Melon was a real person)
Harry Truman
Medium
Scandinavians

Even though I don't think it's something that should be blown out of proportion, I have the feeling it will be. Fortunately for Family Guy fans, the show still produces viewers, so I don't see it going away any time soon.

Sarah Palin joins Fox News

It was only a matter of time that Sarah Palin would find a way to end up in the public eye again. The former governor of Alaska has signed on to do commentary for Fox News (read the article here.) Palin does have a background in broadcasting, once working as a sportcaster in Anchorage. Palin is also the author of her bestselling biography Going Rogue.
