I think it's interesting that a dip in ratings always makes people cancel a show before their network actually does. If Simon does leave, then I can see the show slipping. Love him or hate him, he is the backbone to the whole thing. In my opinion, I don't think Idol really has anything to worry about for now. It still has the power to generate new talent (Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson) and can still serve up some controversy when needed (The Allen/Lambert finale). We'll just have to tune in and see.
