My DVR Moment of the Week: Shawn, You're Just a Tool

I'll admit, I've been a very bad T.V. fan this week. But in my defense, I was out of town and then got really sick, so I wasn't able to actually pay as much attention as my chunky self normally does. But I've said it before and I'll say it again, thank goodness for DVR's, cause it allowed me to catch up on one of my favorite VH1 guilty pleasures: The Tool Academy. Normally, I should be ashamed, especially since I and the majority of viewers question the authenticity of their so-called reality shows (Flavor of Love, I Love New York, etc.), but for some reason I just can't seem to turn away from this one. What I think clinches it for me, and why it comes as this weeks honor, is that even though these guys are being kicked out for not learning how to be better boyfriends, some of their girlfriends still take them back so easily, ESPECIALLY after proclaiming that if they get booted, then it's O-V-E-R. But alas, they still get in the limo with these tools. Hot bod or not, something needs to click inside their heads. Maybe that's why I watch, so I can see if any of them actually wise up. If you don't believe me, click on the video or link below. Warning: you might get hooked by the silliness.

Shawn, You're Just a Tool

Runner-Up: Cleveland without his mustache on The Cleveland Show

Missed Moment: Olympic Figure Skating. I was once a fan, but haven't seen in forever, but I really would have liked to have watched Evan Lysacek win the first gold medal since Brian Boitano for the U.S. Well, maybe next time.

Adam Lambert Booked to Perform on American Idol

Surfing the web and came across this: Adam Lambert to Perform on American Idol

According to the article, Lambert reported via Twitter that he will be on Idol, but can't reveal the date just yet (ugh, such a tease, but you gotta love it). Being cursed with the need to verify, I found the twitter account (and yes, it is real, or at least it seems like it. I am after all very easy to impress sometimes) and it does in fact state he will be on. I hope the reveal the date soon. I regret missing the AMA performance, but did get a chance to catch him perform on So You Think You Can Dance, and thought he did a fantastic job. Plus, I think he's learned his lesson, so anyone concerned because kids are watching can just chill out and let the guy do his thing.

Update on Brittany Murphey: No Illegal Drugs Found in Autopsy

I'm hoping this will put to rest any rumors that have been floating around about Brittany Murphy: Autopsy: No Illegal Drugs Found in Brittany Murphy

According to the article, there was no evidence of alcohol or drug abuse, and her body was well developed. They did find traces of over the counter medications in her system, although the article states they are used in the treatment of a cold or other respiratory infection.

Given the climate that we live in, which thrives on gossip (one to which I am sadly taken in by sometimes), I'm sure there will still be some talk of an overdose. Let's just hope informed minds prevail.

Question of the Day: 2/26/10

I recently read that Howard Stern has stated that should he go to Idol, he would want Ellen and Kara removed and would bring in his own people(I'm guessing he'll still let Randy sit in). Let's say by some off chance that this is even remotely true, my question for you is "which version would you watch?" Stern or Ellen? Comment away!!!

American Idol Top 20: Tim Urban still in the running

It may seem like I'm picking on Tim Urban, but really I'm not. I just don't understand the voting public sometimes. It's not like I think he is horrible, he just didn't bring his A-game (granted a few did, but some still did better). As always, I have to remind myself that this isn't necessarily a competition based solely on talent. There are other factors involved, such as performance, personality, that have to mesh well with the voice. Just like So You Think You Can Dance is a search for America's favorite dancer, this one is a search for America's favorite singer. Favorite, not most talented. *Sigh* But on to the point of the post. Here are the remaining top twenty contestants: Didi Benami, Crystal Bowersox, Lacey Brown, Michelle Delamor, Katelyn Epperly, Siobhan Magnus, Paige Miles, Lilly Scott, Katie Stevens, Haeley Vaughn, Lee Dewyze, Andrew Garcia, Todrick Hall, Casey James, Aaron Kelly, Alex Lambert, Michael Lynche (I thought he was supposed to be removed. Did I miss something?), John Park, Jermaine Sellers, and Tim Urban.

What do you think, did the right people make it in?

Update: NPH Will Guest Star on Glee

Ok Gleeks, hold your breath, Neil Patrick Harris has been confirmed as a guest star on an upcoming episode of Glee! Details have not been released, however it appears he will only be in one episode. Early reports suggested he would team up once again with Joss Whedon, however that particular detail has not been confirmed. I'm too excited to type, so if you want more details, click here. Hopefully I'll catch my breath in time to say something else.

Andrew Koenig's Body Found

I was honestly hoping for the best in this situation, unfortunately that is not the case.  The body of Andrew Koenig, best known for playing Boner on Growing Pains and who was reported missing has been found in Vancouver, and according to his father, committed suicide. Police have not released details, but do not believe there was any foul play.

In honor of Andrew, I have decided to make this weeks Blast from the Past an episode from Growing Pains that I remember him the best in, courtesy of Hulu.com(click on the link below).

Title: Semper Fidelis Plot: Mike feels abandoned after Boner joins the Marines.

Mike Milbury's Olympic Size Flub

Just caught this off of Yahoo: Mike Milbury not a fan of Russia's "Eurotrash" Game

If you missed it, you can watch below (or click here if the player isn't working), but basically Analyst Mike Milbury was commenting on how he felt the Russian team was playing against Canada when the poor choice of words slipped out. Be sure to watch all the way till the end in order to see his colleagues reactions, which are just priceless. I for one, think that he could have used another way to describe his thoughts. Trust, I'm not the most PC person in the world, but even I have my limits. Do you think he went too far? Comment away!!!

Adam Lambert booked for Leno

I think The Tonight Show with Jay Leno finally found a way for me to watch, at least for one night: Leno Books Adam Lambert and Others for Tonight Show Return.

If you remember, Lambert (who many thought should have won last seasons Idol, but we won't get into that here) created quite a stir for his racy AMA performance, and for later being dropped by Good Morning America. Bringing in anyone with controversy is always a plus, and this will also appeal to the younger audience that normally would pass up Leno for Conan (sorry, I just had to mention that). Unfortunately, after that night, I probably won't watch again, just like I assume others will tune out as well.

Fire Officials: MJ Emergency Tape is Bogus

I always wonder how stuff like this gets released: Fire Officials: MJ Emergency Tape is Bogus

American Idol Replacement Fails to Impress

Poor Tim Urban, as per the AP, his chance to show the judges what he can do didn't go over too well. The 20 year old was chosen to replace Chris Golightly after it was found out Golightly had a previous record deal. However, his take on "Apologize" was not well received, though to be fair, he was not alone.

Man, that must really suck. You are given a second chance, and then it doesn't go over well. It is up to the public though, so anything can still happen (Sanjaya anyone?)

Pattie LaBelle comments on American Idol judges

Here's something interesting from the Associated Press: Patti LaBelle: Some Idol judges aren't qualified.

The fabulous Ms. LaBelle, a legend best known for the original "Lady Marmalade" song, commented that some of the judges lacked the skill to really critique, but would not name names (man, I really wish she had, that would have been killer). She went on to say that some of the comments are just too harsh, and tells hopefuls say I can when others say you can't.

I agree with her to some extent. Being mean for the sake of being mean is not helpful at all. But if you actually back it up with some constructive commentary, then that makes it a little better. I've just never understood how someone that beat out thousands could still end up being awful during the voting rounds (ala Sanjaya) since, and correct me if I'm wrong, they were picked because they weren't awful? Well, I guess some mysteries will always be left unsolved. Hmmm, I wonder if Sanjaya is considered one of TV's biggest blunders. Maybe something like biggest blunder of the voting public? That's one I didn't think of before I guessed Geraldo and Al Capone's Vault. I'm gonna go back to the EW list and check.

Updates on Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen

One actor will be returning to work while another will be entering rehab, which will halt production on his show.

Kiefer Sutherland has been cleared to return to work, with production resuming March 1st. There will not be a disruption in episodes. On the flip side, Charlie Sheen will be entering a rehab facility following an incident in which his wife claims he threatened her with a knife, causing production on Two and a Half Men to be suspended until further notice.

Sheen could face up to three years for the incident, which is why it was suggested he seek help. If he receives that sentence, many jobs on the hit series will be at stake. His wife, Brooke Mueller, is also attending a rehab facility. This is a very complicated issue, especially since there are children involved. Hopefully this all works out in the end.

David Anders Joins Vampire Diaries

One of the bright spots of Heroes, David Anders, has joined the cast of Vampire Diaries. Anders will play Jonathon Gilbert, uncle to Elena and Jeremy. Anders will debut April 15th, and will appear throughout the season. His other credits include 24 and Alias.

I loved Anders as Adam Monroe on Heroes and was totally devastated when his character kicked the bucket during the Villains chapter. To me, killing him off was one the biggest mistakes in the show's history (which there are many), especially in a chapter that was called "VILLAINS." I mean, come on, he was the main bad guy of the second season and totally it rocked it. How could they not have had him continue on. Okay, I need to calm down. Anyways, I hope there is a connection between him and the Salvatore brothers. I would love to see a showdown between all three of them. Who's with me?

EW's 50 Biggest Bombs

Hmmm, it appears that Entertainment Weekly already did a story on the fifty biggest bombs in T.V. History. Number one on their list was the recent Jay Leno Show, followed by Fox canceling Family Guy. Unfortunately, my vote for number one didn't make theirs. Let's cross our fingers and hope it makes it on the one from TVGuide. It might be interesting to see how similar and different they are.

TVGuide to share TV's Biggest Blunders

This coming Sunday TVGuide network plans on counting down TV's biggest blunders, which will include Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction and NBC's decision to cancel Baywatch, which became one of the most watched syndicated programs in history.

I thought I would search youtube to see if I could find what I feel might be number one on the list: Geraldo Rivera at Al Capone's vault. This was a very exciting idea, which unfortunately turned into a massive joke. Poor, poor Geraldo Rivera. He looked so confident, and then bam, nothing. He was able to bounce back after that though, which is always important. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. That is what they always say, right?

If you want to see what I mean, just take a look below. Then comment on what you feel is going to be number one.

Growing Pains Actor Missing

Some sad news from TVGuide.com: Growing Pains Star Goes Missing

Accordng to Vancouver police, 41 year-old Andrew Koenig, better known to the world as Boner from Growing Pains and the son of Star Trek star Walter Koenig, has been missing since February 14th. Celebrities such as Sarah Silverman and Alyssa Milano have gone to their Twitter accounts, hoping to find out any information that could lead to a break in the case. The family asks that anyone with potential information to please call 911.

Betty White close to making a deal with Saturday Night Live

This just in from ew.com's Michael Ausiello: Betty White is closer than ever to striking a deal to host SNL for the first time in a special "Women of Comedy" episode. Although no one has been confirmed yet, several actresses (such as Molly Shannon, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler) are being  named as possible co-hosts, which will allow the 88 year-old T.V. legend to host without having to carry the burden of the entire show all by herself. Come on Lorne, lets get this deal done already!!!!

My DVR Moment of the Week: 2/21/10

Due to traveling and other circumstances, my T.V. viewing was very limited this past week. However, crawling out of my T.V. cave did allow me to see a very funny comic who you might recognize as a regular on Comedy Central's Mind of Mencia (and no, it's not Carlos for those that love to state the obvious): Brad Williams. Trust me when I saw this guy is hilarious. If you ever get a chance to see him perform (the schedule is on the link the I provided) go do it. You'll be laughing the whole entire night. I'll post some pics of that night either here or on twitter later.

Now, on to the clip: American Dad has been doing some strange stories this past season (anyone remember the Rapture episode?), and their special Valentine was no exception. Stan from the future(who is now a cyborg)travels to the past in order to train present Stan for an upcoming war. However, what present Stan does not realize is that future Stan is really there to steal away Francine, whom Stan has always taken for granted. Their fight at Hershey Town (I think that's what they call it) and the poor worker that gets in their way (plus a funny surprise) takes this weeks honor. Watch below and enjoy!

Celebrity Tweets about Tiger Woods' Apology

CNN posted a few choice celeb tweets regarding Tiger Woods, and I thought I would share a couple of the more interesting ones:

Eve: “Whatup ya'll... Don't ya'll think they should leave Tiger Woods alone. He's human, what the hell,He didn't handle the media right but whateva. The only appology he ows is 2 his wifey…”

Perez Hilton: “In case you didn't know already... Tiger Woods is a [expletive] moron!"

So there you have it, two very diverse opinions. What do you think? Should Tiger have apologized because he is a role model to millions, or was it only between the parties truly affected, most notably his wife?

Family Guy Actress Responds to Palin

Now here's an interesting turn of events I found off of CNN.com: Andrea Fay Friedman, the actress who voiced the character that sparked an angry response from Palin, has down syndrome, and saw the scene as nothing but satire.Friedman states that she was simply playing a role, and the line was part of that role, which she had fun doing. She also goes on to say that her parents raised her to laugh and have a sense of humor, which is part of having a normal life.

I would have to agree, especially since I do not feel that the episode showed her character in a negative way (except for being a bit high maintenance.) I'm beginning to wonder if Palin saw the episode at all, or just merely heard about it. What do you all think?

TV Guide Magazine | News | Simon Cowell on His Idol Replacement

Here's something of interest for all you American Idol fans: TV Guide Magazine | News | Simon Cowell on His Idol Replacement

This article did three things for me: First, it showed his appreciation for Ellen, whose perspective as a stage performer is a benefit to the contestants. Second, it calmed my fears of Howard Stern being the replacement, since Cowell himself said Stern would not be a good match. Third, it brought up the choice of Perez Hilton, who is mentioned in the article of campaigning really hard for it. Simon thinks he is a good choice, and I have nothing against Perez Hilton (I agree with Simon, he is a character with lots of personality, and isn't afraid to be confrontational) but, as with my hesitation with Stern, I wonder what his background in music is. I guess I will have to do a little research before I make any personal judgments. To be honest though, it wouldn't matter what I said, it's up to Simon and the producers, and I anticipate that whomever they choose will come with controversy, no matter what.

Update on American Idol's Chris Golightly

According to TVGuide.com, Chris Golightly was released from American Idol due to the fact that he failed to mention his past record deal. According to a source form the show, all contestants must state any record contracts, past or present, that they have been a part of. This is a shame, because it is also mentioned that once someone is dropped form the top 24, they are no longer eligible to audition. Unfortunately, we may not hear his side for a while, since Golightly is bound by a confidentiality agreement.

J-Lo on How I Met Your Mother

Hello NPH and HIMYM fans (or at least those obsessive as I am), click below to a pic of the upcoming episode featuring Jennifer Lopez via Michael Ausiello's EW blog. Do you think he has what it takes to resist, or maybe vice-versa?

New NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno Promos

For those that haven't seen them yet, or missed the night they premiered at the Olympics, here are the two new promos for the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, set to premiere March 1st.

Question of the Day 2/19/2010

Taking a cue from Sarah Palin (and this will probably be the only, ONLY time I do that) and the whole Family Guy situation, how far is too far for a comedy to go? Is there a line that should be drawn? Comment away!

Fey May Return as Palin on SNL?

Here's a bit of interesting news from the Associated Press: You betcha: Fey's SNL return as Palin is likely.

Although SNL has not made an official comment, since things could change at the last minute, this is definitely something to look forward to. Fey's impersonation of Palin was a highlight of that season, and became an icon of the election. Besides, there is so much material now, with the book, her statement about Family Guy, and the incident with the notes on her hand, there is just no way that SNL could pass this up this opportunity. But then again, they have passed up a few before. Hopefully the McGruber movie isn't taking up too much of their energy.

For those who have forgotten, here's a repeat of the opening Fey did as Palin, with Amy Pohler as Hilary Clinton I found on hulu.com.

Another American Idol Contestant Removed

Man, the drama just keeps building, doesn't it: American Idol Contestant Removed from Top 24.

According to the article, Chris Golightly has become ineligible to continue in the top 24, and no official statement has been made to why. Tim Urban will take his spot in the competition.

Here's a rundown of the top 24, which now includes Urban:

Didi Benami
Crystal Bowersox
Lacey Brown
Michelle Delamor
Katelyn Epperly
Siobhan Magnus
Paige Miles
Ashley Rodriguez
Lilly Scott
Katie Stevens
Haeley Vaughn
Janell Wheeler
Lee Dewyze
Andrew Garcia
Tyler Grady
Todrick Hall
Casey James
Aaron Kelly
Alex Lambert
Michael Lynche

Blast from the Past: Muppet Babies

This weeks Blast from the Past honoree will ask us to sit back and use our imagination when it's too rainy to go outside. So if you haven't figured it out yet, I'm talking about the Muppet Babies. Each episode featured our favorite Muppets (in baby form) as they jumped from one adventure to another, all with the power of their minds. What I really liked about this one is that it combined clips from movies and shows in telling some of their stories. As a kid it seemed really neat, and now I want to see them again as an adult in order to see if I can name them all.The trivia section on IMDB states that the clips were so extensive, that putting all the episodes on DVD or syndicating them would be impossible due to royalties and fees. I wonder how much of that is true?

Some other trivia of note: the character of Skeeter was never a Muppet. She was only used for the cartoon. They were also attended by a never seen but only heard Nanny. Wanna take a guess at who played her? Can't place her, then click here to find out.

I found two different intros on youtube, so I assume that it must have changed during it's run. Enjoy!!!

Early CW Renewals

The Vampire Diaries (my heart just skipped a beat)

Gossip Girl (never watch, but some friends of mine will be happy)

90210 (never watched and now with Kelly not really there,I probably won't)

Supernatural (I promise I'll catch up on this one)

America's Next Top Model (don't watch, but love reading about the drama)

Palin angry over Family Guy reference

Former Vice-Presidential candidate Sarah Palin has a beef with Family Guy. According to the Associated Press article I read, this past weeks episode featured a character with Down Syndrome, who while on a date with Chris makes a statement that her Dad is an accountant and her mom is the former Governor of Alaska. Palin refers to the reference as "another kick in the gut" and later asks "when is enough enough?"

To get this out of the way, I do understand Palin's position. As someone who worked with children with disabilities, it is very hard for me to see jokes at their expense, especially on T.V. However, after watching the episode, it really didn't seem like an attack on her son Trig, and wasn't necessarily a negative portrayal of people with Down Syndrome. The character seemed high functioning, and wasn't all that different from any high-maintenance, high school age girl. In fact, they've done a lot worse with other groups before. Does that make it right? Maybe not, but if they were to apologize for this, then they need to apologize to the following groups that were also made fun of in the episode:

The British
American Public(for thinking Thornton Melon was a real person)
Harry Truman
Medium
Scandinavians

Even though I don't think it's something that should be blown out of proportion, I have the feeling it will be. Fortunately for Family Guy fans, the show still produces viewers, so I don't see it going away any time soon.

Betty White on SNL? My dream come true.

While reading through the TV News on Yahoo, I learned that there is a campaign to get Betty White (The Golden Girls, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Boston Legal)to host Saturday Night Live. I, and about 335,000 fans, agree. My only concern is that they would not give her enough good material to show off her excellent comedic timing. But we can worry about that later, lets just make this happen. Check out the link below in order to become a fan and send a message to Lorne Michaels that we want to see Betty!!!

Some sad news today for Oscar fans: Barbara Walters to Host Final Oscar Night Special

This years interviewees will include Oscar nominees Sandra Bullock and Mo'Nique, as well as a retrospective of past specials. Since 1981, Walters has interviewed such legends as Bette Davis, Shirley McLaine, and Elizabeth Taylor, the likes of which ended up a Oscar Night tradition.

My favorite, of course, is when she interviewed the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and asked about their parents, causing the tears to flow. Who knew puppets were so sensitive?

Keifer Sutherland hospitalized; 24 temporarily halts production

Via the L.A. Times, Kiefer Sutherland has been hospitalized due to a ruptured cyst near his kidneys and is expected to undergo surgery. In the meantime, 24 will halt production until he returns, which is expected to be within the next week.

My DVR Moment of Last Week - 2/14/2010

Spoilers might be ahead, be warned! This weeks top honor goes to the Vampire Diaries for finally showing someone that can bring Damon to his knees. No, it wasn't his trapped inside the church (or was she?) Katherine, it was Bonnie's Grams (played by Jasmine Guy), a seasoned witch that dropped Damon to the ground with one mean, icy stare. The icing on the cake? "I'm not Bonnie, you don't wanna mess with me," she growls. Unfortunately we may never see Grams again, but with a supernatural show, you just never know.

Runner-Up: Two and a Half Men and the unfortunate incident with Charlie and the baby carriage. Yes, it was gross and tasteless, but it was also unexpected, and gave Evelyn a chance to console Charlie the only way she can. ("Don't worry, we've all been there" Classic).

Missed Moment: Apollo Ohno  makes history.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!!

Happy Valentines Day to All!!! I hope everyone has a great day.

In honor of today (even if it is a greeting card holiday like some say) I want everyone to list their favorite romantic moment they have witnessed on T.V. I'll get things started.

Matt takes Daphne for one last flight on Heroes
This show is notorious for giving people one too many powers (Sylar!!), and when Matt showed up in Paris and revealed to Daphne he could fly, my eyes rolled to the back of my head like everyone else's. However, the bigger reveal was that everything that was occurring was inside Daphne's head as she laid dying in a hospital room, a product of Matt's ability. Their final moment was one of the sweetest in the show's scatter shot history, and is one I will never forget.

Now it's your turn. Comment below.

American Idol Contestant Let Go Because of Past

According to TVGuide, Danielle Hayes was cut from Idol due to a past criminal history. Hayes is currently on probation after being cited with driving with a suspended license and possession of marijuana in 2008. Producers would have had to have sought permission for her to have left the state. They did however encourage her to try out again next year.

Reboot vs. Remakes vs. Sequels

Okay, so I know I've used the word reboot before, but I'm beginning to wonder if maybe like jump the shark, this phrase is beginning to be misused quite a bit. Given my understanding, a reboot is supposed to have a break in continuity from the original series in order to give it fresh ideas. My question to you is if you take a character from the series and put them in a new situation, doesn't that make it a sequel and not a reboot, since there is still a connection in continuity? Take this article from Access Hollywood which I found via Yahoo: 80's Classics Vacation and Best Little Whorehouse Heading for Reboots. Apparently in the new Vacation reboot, the focus will be on the son, Rusty Griswald, as an adult, and his adventures as he sets off to Wally World. Since they are still using Rusty and throw in Wally World, doesn't that leave an outright connection to the original? The idea in itself is not fresh, since it is basically taking the first movie and just moving it to the son, which in opinion, doesn't make it a reboot. If it did, then I guess we can consider Son of the Mask more of a reboot, since I believe it didn't have a connection to the original except for the Mask, and used it for a new take on the source (poor example, I know, I was just trying to be funny. I guess I need to work on that). A better example would be Batman Begins, which took the same character but adjusted some of the mythos to tell a new, compelling story, abandoning the previous Batman films(Batman, Batman Returns, Batman Forever, Batman & Robin) altogether. It's a fine line, since they still were using the character of Batman and others, but I believe it is closer to the definition than most films and shows trying to work under that label.

Of course, I haven't eaten yet, and as anyone else who is on the chubby side like myself knows, it could make me a little cranky, which might be why I am picking on this idea. Or maybe I'm right? I'll let you decide. Comment away!!

Criminal Minds Spin-off Casting News

They've added one more person to talk in succession: Beau Garrett Cast in Criminal Minds Spin-off.

I'm not too familiar with her, so I really can't comment on what I think. However, Ms. Garrett has been in some pretty major stuff (not to mention the upcoming Tron Legacy), which means this could show promise. Let's just hope she can keep up with Forest Whitaker, who had been previously cast.

I don't know about you, but I think the real news will be when they start casting for Two and a Half Men: Austin, TX. What do you think?

Do you think the Howard Stern/American Idol rumors are true? Some say yes, others no, who do you believe?

'Ugly Betty' exclusive: Kathy Najimy braces for historic role

'Ugly Betty' exclusive: Kathy Najimy braces for historic role

You know, in a way, this is kind of fitting for the last season. Hopefully they can complete the transformation without compromising who Betty is and what she stands for. I would hate to see her end up as a fashionista-type in the end (unless they already have, I haven't kept up since the last few episodes I talked about). She's already confident and beautiful, and although I agree it is time to take off the braces (since that is a natural part of life) too much destroys what I believe the message of the show to be.

Blast From the Past: Hulk Hogan's Rock n' Wrestling

With MTV changing it's look, it got me thinking about all the stuff I used to watch when I was actually under a 38 waist.  Plus, being the dork that I am, I have decided to try and devote every Thursday to those special shows that used to get my little heart beating with excitement. We all know the Smurfs, Thundercats and G.I. Joe, so I wanted to try and find something that people might not remember right away, which brings us to our first blast from the past honoree: Hulk Hogan's Rock n' Wrestling. Now, I haven't seen an episode in a long, long time, so I can't really talk about quality, but I do remember the excitement of seeing my favorite grapplers in cartoon form. In a nutshell, you had your good guys, led by Hogan, and your bad guys, led by Rowdy Roddy Piper, and their misadventures week after week. It may sound corny, but it actually had my little brother and I glued to the T.V.

Unfortunately, after doing some research, I learned that they didn't actually provide the voices, which is suprising to me, especially in the case of Hogan, who I would have thought being the main character, would at least have been the only one. You might be surprised who it actually is, and if you want to know, you can click here. For those that would rather live in denial, sit back, relax, and let your inner child flow by watching the intro I was actually able to find on youtube.com. Do you remember the show? Watch and discuss below.

Friday Night Lights to end after fifth season

The critical yet ratings challenged darling has been canceled by NBC, according to the article I read on TVGuide.com. Although NBC says nothing is official, the article states that the cast has been told that after next season they are free to move on to other projects. Unless a drastic spike in ratings occurs, I can see this becoming official very soon.

Alex O'Loughlin to star in 'Hawaii Five-0'

Alex O'Loughlin to star in 'Hawaii Five-0'

For fans of Moonlight (and even Three Rivers), this is probably the best news they've heard in a while. He's a very dynamic presence, and in my opinion will make a great Steve McGarrett. This reboot is really shaping up, with Daniel Dae Kim already in the cast as well. What do you all think?

Ellen's Talk Show renewed for three more years

I guess the good news just keeps pouring in for Ellen DeGeneres. First she helps American Idol fill the void that Paula left, as well as help it get stronger ratings, but now her talk show has been renewed for three more years, which will take it into it's eleventh season. Ellen: If Stern's coming to 'Idol," I'm outta here :: CHICAGO SUN-TIMES :: Entertainment

Just found this off of the Chicago Sun Times via a retweet from Twitter. Normally I TRY (notice the capital letters) not to post anything unless the person themselves have actually said it, but I found this one too good to pass up. It would be a shame to lose her, since early reports show a very favorable response, and if it came down to one or the other (and please excuse my over use of this Twilight reference) I'd be on team Ellen all the way.

Kara DioGuardi talks about Ellen, Howard Stern

I wasn't a big Kara fan in the beginning, but after reading this AP article via yahoo, I think I might be able to turn my opinion around: DioGaurdi lauds DeGeneres as Idol Judge

I have to say, I completely agree with her on this one. Stern is good at what he does, but I think he would be a definite mismatch on Idol. His humor is of a different kind, and as I said previously, the contestants would benefit more from someone with a musical background. Sure he performs in front of millions day in and day out, but that perspective is already filled by Ellen. If anything, it could prove either a ratings hit, or a major disaster, if this were to actually happen.

Ellen's Debut and Other Ratings News

Just saw this on TVGuide.com: Ellen Gives Idol a Boost; Lost Takes a Dip

Ellen's debut episode brought in 27.7 million viewers, helping Idol climb 12 percent in the 18-49 demos, and 4 percent in the overall viewership, compared to the opening of Hollywood week in Season 8.

Lost debuted to 11.2 million viewers(down 11 percent from last seasons premiere), and won the battle in terms of demos, however NCIS: Los Angeles took the hour in overall viewers with 17.8 million.

The Good Wife ended winning it's hour as well, with 14.7 in overall viewers.

MTV Changes Logo

Well, it had to happen, especially since they technically dropped the music a long, long time ago. For the full story and a peek at the new look, visit here: MTV's Big Change.

This is making me nostalgic for the days when I used to watch my favorite artists on MTV, and how much I really miss it. It's a shame that after The Real World took off, MTV decided to devote more time to the reality craze. I can't even think of any iconic videos anymore, a la Thriller, Like a Virgin, or November Rain. But then again, I'm no longer hip to the latest craze (which should be obvious based on that last sentence.)

'Big Bang Theory' mystery: Is Sheldon gay?

I'm not sure how I feel about this: 'Big Bang Theory' mystery: Is Sheldon gay?

One, it might be fun to see Sheldon struggle with feelings he just doesn't quite understand, especially if it is for another male, however part of the fun is watching him observe and be confused by the antics that surround him. Putting him in relationship would take that very valuable trait away, and kind of make him like the rest of the group (not that it would be a bad thing, they are all great, but you know what I mean.) However, if they do go that route, I would love to see his reaction to being with both sexes. His analytical mind would allow nothing less, since he always has to explore every possiblity. Now that might make some interesting T.V.

The Origin of "Jumping the Shark"

Those, like myself, who watch way too much T.V. probably hear this all the time: "I can't believe it, they really jumped the shark on that episode." Usually this statement is made after the birth of twins, a character returns from the dead, or Ted McGinley joins the cast (more on that later). But with recent news of Henry Winkler joining the cast of Royal Pains, it got me thinking about where that particular phrase came from, and how it has evolved from it's original context to what is now just an angry fan blowing off some steam. Allow me to elaborate.

In September 1977, Happy Days had a very special episode that had the Fonz test his bravery by jumping over a shark on water skies. Although the series ran for several years after that, that one shining moment became the symbol for a show that had reached it's apex, and spiraled downward in quality. The actual phrase was not used until 1985, when John Hein said it to describe programs that "would never be the same." In Happy Day's case, it went through a variety of cast changes, including one with Ted McGinley, who is notorious for joining shows that are about to be canceled (Dynasty, Married with Children, Love Boat, the list goes on, which is why he receives his own category). Hein later created a website that allowed people to list the moments they believe their favorites have jumped the shark, which is now part of TVGuide.com.

In my opinion, opening this up was a great idea at first, but has now given people the misconception that anything they don't agree with constitutes jumping the shark. It's sort of become a cliche, and has lost it's original meaning. However, now you know the truth, and can use that to show off your new found wisdom. You're welcome.

Here's a video of that moment via Youtube:

Stern on American Idol, pt. 2

Well, as I mentioned previously, American Idol producers have stated that they would love to have Howard Stern fill the judges seat that will be left by Simon Cowell after this season. Now here's Stern's side, and for those who are skeptical (and I'll admit I'm one of them), it doesn't look good. It seems that he would, in fact, be interested, but it would take about 100 million dollars. That's a big chunk of change, and if it doesn't work out, the ones who will really lose are the contestants and the viewers. Like I've said, I will keep an open mind, but it can only stay open for so long.

TV Guide Magazine | Keck's Exclusives | Drew Barrymore Remakes Charlie's Angels

Well, they were already bringing back Hawaii Five-O, might as well go for another classic. Now which would you rather have, something more like the original, or closer to the films? Comment away.

Speaking of Hawaii Five-O, look who's been signed on for a role.

TV Guide Magazine | Keck's Exclusives | True Blood’s Odd Couple

Just when I thought the last True Blood News I heard made me wish summer was already here, they go and announce this:

TV Guide Magazine | Keck's Exclusives | True Blood’s Odd Couple

To be sure, this will be a very interesting match, with Jason and Hoyt being such polar opposites. Sure, they are both sweet as can be, but Jason is more wild and untamed, while Hoyt's sweetness lies in his deer in the headlights demeanor. I wonder who will change who more. Plus, with all those girls Jason is bound to have around, what will Jessica, with her uncontrollable emotions, think about all this. It needs to be summer now!!!!

Jim Parsons draws NAB award

It may not be the Emmy or a Golden Globe (not that I'm belittling this particular group, I'm trying to make a point), but it's nice to see Jim Parsons get some recognition for his brilliant portrayal of Dr. Sheldon Cooper on The Big Bang Theory.

Super Bowl breaks ratings record

I'll admit it, I missed it, even the commercials. I'm not that big of a sports fan, and I'll usually only watch if a Texas team is playing. But, for those sports nuts out there, here's an article I found on Variety just for you. Enjoy.

My DVR Moment of Last Week

Hands down, this weeks honor goes to The Good Wife and the fabulous Julianna Margulies. Her final scene with an appropriately creepy and excellent Dylan Baker, in which the notions of trust and appearance are called into question, left me with chills. There's a reason why she keeps winning the recent string of awards folks, and if she has more scenes like that, Magulies could continue in the future.

Runner-up: Meg Returns Home on Family Guy

I don't know if I could explain the sight of a totally different Meg walking into her home after spending three months in jail, so I'll just let the video below do it for me. Viewer discretion is advised for some foul language.

Missed Moment: Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino at the Grammy's. I tune in and out of this ceremony every so often, but I would have loved to have seen if he lived up to Reality King comment that was made a while back. Anyone know where I can find the video?

Howard Stern on Idol?

I caught this yesterday, but it took a bit to sink in: Is Howard Stern replacing Simon Cowell on Idol?

Now, I think I know why producers would want Stern. He is very opinionated and is never afraid to tell it like it is, much like an acerbic judge we currently know. However, and I could be wrong so please correct me if I am, putting Stern on would take away another music industry expert that could have the same valuable input that Simon provides. Also, Stern's kind of truthfulness is more compatible with a round table such as Real Time with Bill Maher, and not with a bunch of hopefuls trying to make it in the music industry. Like everything, I can wait and see, and since this isn't official it's not something that should let get my undies in a twist. But, if producers are trying to shake things up to keep Idol of interest once Cowell goes, then I think they need to really think long and hard before making a choice. A lot is at stake, and one bad decision in this fickle T.V. climate is never a good thing.

Drama surrounds comedy's revival

I promise to get more in depth about this later but I thought this particular article did a very good job of explaining the current state of comedies. It's a shame that it's very hard to put any recent comedy in the same league as Cosby or Roseanne (at least off the top of my head). Can you all name any?

Brothers and Sisters Recast: Joe Jonas Out, Cody Longo is In

Straight from my favorite EW Blogger Micheal Aussielo, Joe Jonas, of the Jonas Brothers, will no longer play a young Tommy on Brothers and Sisters due to a scheduling conflict. Cody Longo will take his place on the flashback episode, which promises to reveal a major secret in the history of the Walkers. What do you think of the recast?

Ratings for Thursday Shows

Here's a rundown of how Thursday's programming did ratings-wise, as per EW.Some worthy notes: Vampire Diaries reached 4 million, it's first time since the fall, and CBS's procedural shows still seem to be going strong, with CSI and The Mentalist each around 14 million viewers, which makes them the winners of the night in terms of overall viewers. However, if you take a look at what Variety says, then ABC with it's Greys Anatomy/Private Practice combo took the first night of sweeps. Ahh, the ratings game.

So You Think You Can Dance returns to Summer

Well, my prayers were answered: So You Think You Can Dance returns to Summer.

As I had mentioned in one of my very first blog posts, I wasn't sure what it was, but something seemed a bit off about the fall edition. Maybe it was the odd changes in format to accommodate the World Series? Or maybe it was overkill? Maybe people missed Mia Michaels too much? Those are three of the many reasons why the ratings for the show might have taken a hit, with the Fall finale coming in at 7.1 million compared to the Summer finale, which brought in 7.8 million viewers. Whatever the reason, I'm glad I have my summer show staying were it belongs, and that it can play out in it's true glory.

By the way, season 7 is currently auditioning next month on the following dates and cities: Dallas on March 10, Nashville on March 14, Chicago on March 18 and Los Angeles on March 26.

True Blood Explores Eric's Past

Who knew former Vikings (and not the football team) had daddy issues? This season on True Blood will flash back to 900 A.D.and will show the tensions between a pre-vampire Eric (an incredibly fun to watch Alexander Skarsgard) and his father, viking king Ulfrick. Hopefully they find a way to bring back Godric as well. Sigh, he was such a great character, and the last episode he was on still remains one of my favorites. It will be hard to top that one, even if they focus more on Eric.

Days of Our Lives' Francis Reid passes away

Francis Reid, known to millions of soap opera fans as Alice Horton, has passed away. She was 95 years old. Reid, who initially turned down the role of Alice, appeared since the premiere in 1965 until 2007. Her other credits include As The World Turns and Edge of Night.

It's always sad to hear about landmark characters passing away, especially one such as Reid. She was basically the mother/grandmother everyone wanted to have. She will be missed.

True Blood Casting News: Alcide's ex cast

Browsing through EW, and look at what I found: Actress Brit Morgan (The Middleman) has landed the role of Debbie Pelt, Alcide's psychotic ex, who will be a major part in the upcoming season of True Blood. If you remember, Alcide and his sister are already coming to Bon Temps, and I'm sure they expect to have a howling good time. I wonder how Debbie will play into all this. Man, the summer just can't come fast enough : (

Update on Neil Patrick Harris' Glee Appearance

Just caught this off of Michael Aussiello's EW blog: it appears that CBS has signed off on the deal that will allow NPH to strut his stuff with our favorite rag tag group of rising stars. Although nothing is truly final yet, this is one major roadblock lifted that gets us one step closer. All together now: Hip Hip Hooray!!!!

TVGuide Interview with Mike "the Situation" Sorrentino

Want to hear more for Jersey Shore's "The Situation," then check out this interview from TVGuide.

The title is a little misleading, but he does say that towards the end of the interview. In my opinion, it's a little early to be declaring yourself on top, especially with the fickle reality audience that exists. The more exposure you get, the quicker people tire of you. My advice to Mike and the rest: take it slow. You never know what tomorrow will bring.

Sarah Chalke returns to ABC in new pilot

Sarah Chalke (Scrubs, Roseanne) has been cast in the upcoming pilot "Freshman," which will center on a group of politicos who live together. As per Variety, Chalke will play a newly elected congresswoman who has seen a great personal success, but isn't so lucky in the love department. I hope this one works out. I love Chalke, but I honestly hope they give her something different than the character she played on Scrubs. Then again, if it aint broke.....

CBS continues to dominate Monday Nights

The Big Bang Theory and Two and Half Men, the dynamic duo of Monday nights (I couldn't resist) continued their hot streaks in the ratings game. Big Bang posted the highest numbers with 18-49 year olds, while Men was the most watched program overall. Hulk says puny humans need to keep watching (sorry, couldn't resist again, I promise I'll stop.) Read more about other Monday shows and their ratings here.

Kathy Griffin to Guest Star on SVU

How is it that I haven't heard of this? According to the article I found on TVGuidemagazine.com, America's favorite fiesty D-Lister will guest star on March 3rd's episode as Babs Duffy, a militant lesbian that gets to plant a nice long kiss on Mariska Hargitay's Det. Benson.

OMG! I haven't tuned in for a while now, but I think I just might for this one. I love when comedians try out their dramatic chops, and it will be interesting to see what Kathy does with this. A militant lesbian, I can't wait. Better set the dvr before I forget.

Academy Award Nominations

You've probably heard them already (darn full-time job, just kidding boss, I love working....and receiving a steady income) but here are the list of nominees for this years Academy Awards. It might be worth noting that this years has some significance, with 10 movies being nominated for Best Picture, the first time in sixty-six years. True Blood: Alcide's Sister Cast

Just in from TVGuide.com: Dawn Olivieri has been cast  for season 3 of True Blood as Janice Herveaux, sister/werewolf to Joe Maganiello's Alcide, who if you haven't guessed, will also be a werewolf. Recently Olivieri was seen on Heroes as the tatooed empath Lydia, and has also appeared on My Boys and How I Met Your Mother.

Razzie Nominations Announced

The 2009 Nominations for the Golden Razzie Awards (the anti-oscars if you will) have been announced. Taking top honors this year as worst picture include Transformers:Revenge of the Fallen and G.I. I could be wrong, given the majority that have been released but have not been up to par.
